The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services contracts with private agencies across the state to provide intensive, family-centered support and therapeutic services to help families formed through adoption and guardianship gain stability and reduce the risk of out of home placement. Incredible Years-Parenting Programs
Incredible Years Series is a series of three separate, multifaceted, and developmentally based training programs for parents, teachers, and children with the goal of preventing, reducing, and treating behavioral and emotional problems in young children. The parenting program is specifically focused on strengthening parenting competencies and fostering parent involvement in children’s school experiences, promote children’s academic, social and emotional skills and reduce conduct programs. Integrative Parenting
Integrative Parenting is a five week parenting course that will empower parents of children impacted by trauma and parents of adopted children with effective techniques to improve relationships with their children. The goal is for parents to identify the root of their children’s behaviors, the impact of past trauama on the parent-child relationship, and learn effective methods to calm reactive children.
Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP)
Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) is a form of psychodynamic treatment that facilitates the rapid resolution of a broad spectrum of emotional disorders in adults. It is an evidence-based psychotherapy that is strongly supported by current clinical research studies. ISTDP interventions are specifically designed to resolve anxiety, depression, somatization and personality disorders, as well as alleviate a variety of self-defeating behaviors, many of which derive from unstable or troubled early life attachments. The recommended service intensity is 1 hour weekly for an average of 20 sessions. ISTDP can be delivered in a hospital, outpatient clinic, and/or community-based agency.
Intergenerational Trauma Treatment Model (ITTM)
Intergenerational Trauma Treatment Model (ITTM) is a comprehensive and robust, 21-session manualized program informed by trauma theory, attachment theory and advanced CBT techniques. ITTM first works with the caregiver (and any adult with long-term involvement with the child) to address their own trauma histories and understand how trauma and the responses to it are influencing behaviors. Then, ITTM treats the child’s (ages 3 to 18) complex trauma. Each session is 60 – 90 minutes per week, and can be conducted in an outpatient clinic, community-based agency, or residential care.
KEEP (Keeping Foster and Kin Parents Supported and Trained)
KEEP is an evidence-based support and skill enhancement education program for foster and kinship parents of children ages 5 to 12 . The program supports foster families by promoting child well-being and preventing placement breakdowns. The objective of KEEP is to give parents effective tools for dealing with their child’s externalizing and other behavioral and emotional problems and to support them in the implementation of those tools. KEEP groups typically include 7 to 10 foster or kinship parents who attend 16 weekly 90-minute sessions that focus on practical, research-based parenting techniques. KEEP SAFE
KEEP SAFE (an adaptation of KEEP) is a skill enhancement education program for foster and kinship parents of children ages 13 – 18. The objective of KEEP SAFE is to give parents effective tools for dealing with their child’s externalizing and other behavioral and emotional problems and support them in the implementation of those tools. KEEP SAFE curriculum explores topics on developing and maintaining positive peer relationships, avoiding drug use, participation in health-risking sexual behavior, and problems in school. Keeping the Promise Adoption/Subsidized Guardian Preservation Services
Keeping the Promise is a program provided by Baby Fold and is available to any family with a child under 18 years of age who is presenting a special challenge and joined the family through adoption or subsidized guardianship. Kids in Transition to School (KITS)
Kids in Transition to School (KITS) is an evidence-based school readiness program that helps children at high risk for school difficulties to be better socially and academically prepared for school. KITS was designed with a two-pronged approach: (1) a 24-session school readiness group curriculum focused on early literacy skills, early numeracy skills, self-regulation, and social skills, and (2) an 8 to 10 session workshop for caregivers that fosters opportunities for peer to peer support and the use of positive parenting practices. Let’s Connect (LC)
Let’s Connect (LC) is a parenting intervention that helps caregivers identify and respond to children’s (ages 3 – 15) emotional needs and behaviors in a way that builds connection and warmth and promotes children’s emotional competence (e.g., emotion regulation, empathy) and sense of emotional security. LC offers individualized training, skills modeling, and live support for skills practice for caregivers over 8 – 12 (90 minute) weekly sessions. LC is available in English and Spanish.
