Discusses historical inequities in the child welfare system that disproportionately affect Black and American Indian/Alaskan Native children. This article discusses how the impact of poverty led to an overrepresentation of families of color among poor families. This article closes with a call to action to reform the child welfare system through the reallocation of resources towards prevention and addressing institutionalized racism and bias.
