Child welfare agencies are frequently being contacted by families who have achieved permanency through adoption or guardianship to support complex behavioral and emotional issues that arise during adolescence. Issues connected to identity formation including racial identity, unresolved loss and grief, trauma triggers, birth family connections (search and reunion) and larger impact of developmental challenges including academic needs can all peek during adolescence. In this chat, Debbie Riley LCMFT, will lead discussion as to types of effective post permanency support for teens and families and how child welfare systems can build responsive supports.
